Health Tips For Your Cat

As a cat lover, you would naturally want to know as much as you can about your kitty’s health! Your little bundle of fur can be practically considered as part of the family, so why wouldn’t you make sure that he is happy and healthy?

In this article we will look at a few starting points for your cat’s health.

A cats health is strongly affected by what kitty eats. Obesity is a major factor in heart disease particularly as your cat gets older. Choose a pet food for your cat that is right for it’s age but feed it regularly. If in doubt get your veternarians advice as your cat can have completely different nurtient needs to what you would expect!

Longhaired cats should be groomed regularly for optimum cat health. Use a pet brush and groom no less than once a week. This is a great way to bond with your new born cats!

The litter box can be a danger to both your cats health and human health if it isn’t cleaned regularly. Change your pet’s litter no less than once every four days or more remembering to clear the tray of faces as since cats are very clean animals and can smell up to 10 times better than humans! Your kitty will just love you for it! Also be careful as some litter can be very dusty, which can irritate kitty’s asthma.

If choosing to declaw your kitty, this can be a major factor in a cats health. If you choose to declaw your pet it is important to remember to keep them inside at all times! Although I would never recommend to declaw kitty as this is taking away what makes him a cat! Also sometimes declawing can be very painfull for your cat and he may become resentful! If you are worried about your furniture, invest in a cat scratcher and rub some cat nip over it, you will be suprised! Another option is only to trim the claws with great care.

Stressful situations like moving, travelling, natural disasters or even changes in the family can affect cat health as cats are very sensitive creatures. To minimize the effects of stress on your pet, ask your vet or pet store what to recommend to slightly sedate kitty. Cat nip is always a good option, when cat eats this plant it acts as a sedative.

Part of managing cat health is making sure dangerous poisons like antifreeze are inaccessible to your pet just as you would with your own toddler. Some household plants are fatal to cats so make sure to raise your plants and lock your toxins! If you have an indoor kitty, invest in a few cat-friendly plants such as Cat nip, Cat grass, Honeysuckle etc. with the bonus of giving kitty much needed nutrients and minerals not generally found in manufactured pet food!

Cat’s often have mouth diseases and this can impact a cats health. Cat’s are just as prone to gingivitis as humans and cats can also develop. Take kitty to the vet at least once a year to have his teeth regulary checked and cleaned, even switching to a food that prevents tatar buildup is always a bonus.

As always one of the greatest factors in a cats health is deciding if your cat goes outdoors. Cars, children, other animals and toxins, ALL are all dangerous and should be avoided by keeping your cat indoors. Sometimes this isn’t the solution for every kitty as you will need to stock up on the cat toys! And can be very hard to stop your kitty if he already has been accustomed to the outdoors!

A Saltwater Fish Tank Needs Careful Planning

Fish keeping is an entertaining and relaxing hobby. I would go on to say that once you are done with all the haggling to build yourself a one, then just by looking at it you could sooth your senses. It does rejuvenate through its visual appeal. This is because of both diversity and complexity of the marine life in it. And especially saltwater aquariums, they tend to contain more colorful and unique life forms compared to freshwater fishes.

If you are interested in a saltwater fish tank, you should be acquainted with the fact that due to the diversity of marine life and difficulty in breeding them, most fishes in a saltwater aquarium are directly take from the sea. So in a way this adds to the cost, as a major chunk of the expenses of shipping and handling of the fishes is passed on you.

Starting a saltwater fish tank is very different from getting a freshwater tank done. Before you get down to building or selecting an appropriate tank, you need to purchase the supplies and materials needed to make the tank environment more conducive for saltwater animals.

First and foremost you will need heaters to maintain the climate of your tank at temperature levels which your fish can bear and thrive in. This becomes more important if you have tropical fishes which need high temperatures to flourish. Then you would also need Power filters to maintain the cleanliness of the water. Filters do an important job in making water less stagnant and recreating an aquatic flow similar to a natural water body. Then there are Air Stones which you would need to keep in your tank. These are required to aerate the water for fishes to live healthily.

Along with the above supplies I just mentioned you would need sea salt mix, so that you can recreate the saltwater condition and make the fish feel at home! That creates need for a hydrometer too, which would help you to monitor the state of the water in your saltwater tank.

Now when you are done with the initial preparation, its time to choose your fish. My personal favorites are Damsels. They are probably the best saltwater fish for beginners. They are not fussy eaters and are conditioned to survive in varied water conditions. Another popular option is Clownfish. This species again are tough and can survive adverse conditions in a saltwater aquarium. This particular fish is not an aggressive fish and loves to live with other tank mates in harmony. But if there are lost of clownfish in your tank they tend to be aggressive.

You may also consider having Tangs in your tank. Tangs are very handy in cleaning up the tank from algae. You just need to take care that they are provided with their steady diet if there are not a large collection of algae in your saltwater fish tank.

Once you are done with the building experience I guarantee that you are going to enjoy the new entrant in your abode. So get ready to welcome a new family in your family!

The African grey parrot scientifically known as Psittacus erithacus is originated in Central Africa. here are two types of African Greys – the larger Congo (has bright red tail feathers) and smaller Timneh (darker tail feathers). No one really knows when the grey african parrot was first found in Europe, but it said that King Henry VIII had an African grey parrot as a pet.

The African Grey parrot is a large bird that can grow to 12 to 14 inches in length. The Timneh subspecies is a little smaller. Their tails are quite short and they don’t have very beautiful colored plumage, but all this is compensated by they intelligence.

I will try to talk a little about the African Grey parrot behavior and training.

The Grey is a very social bird. In the wild, they depend on the flock for their safety and their emotional well-being. Because they depend on the flock so much, they read the emotion of their companion birds. This translates to their human companions as well. If an owner is upset or angry, the bird will feel it and react to the emotion.

African Grey parrots really need much attention and interaction. Because of their dependence of the flock, if they stay alone they will get bored and depressed. If you don’t spend enough time with an African Grey parrot he will get the feather picking behavior or even become quite aggressive. So if you decide to buy an African Grey parrot keep in mind that they are not lonely birds. African Grey parrots need a strong relationship with their owners. If you think that you are not able to make this commitment you should reconsider and buy another species of parrot.

But the most interesting aspect of the African Grey parrot is that they are very intelligent. I have heard of a parrot called Alex, the African Grey trained by Dr. Irene Pepperberg, can perform tasks on the same level as a four year old child including distinguishing colors, shapes, and numbers of objects.

African grey parrots are also great talkers. They can learn a larger number of words and the most amazing thing is that they can use the words properly. If you think that we are talking about a bird’s brain you have to agree that this are very good performances.

The training of your African Grey parrot can be very fun because they learn very fast and they are very curious. If you want your bird to say a certain phrase, say it in different ways. Say it in a sing-song way, in a low voice, in a high voice, in a baby voice, or any other voice. Say the phrase looking directly at the bird so that he knows you want him to say it.

I advise you not to teach him dirty words. Don’t make a joke from your pet. Also be careful to keep many toys around your african grey parrot so he will not get bored.

In conclusion, please don’t buy an african grey parrot if you are not sure that you can meet all the parrot care demands.

Bird watching as a hobby has long been contested by the birders, saying that the two are not in any way the same. While birdwatchers do such as part of an activity during recreation, birders are into it with intense dedication.

The Birders

May it be in the UK or in the United States, birders say that what they are doing is far from just a pastime or a relaxation thing. For them, they do such to study not only the species of birds but also their patterns. They don’t base their analogies on mere observation and they invest on the latest optical equipments to strengthen their claims.

Instead of going where the birdwatchers usually go, the birders are always on the lookout for new and unexplored sites, hoping to find more information. They would even allot a budget for travel, however far it will take them, just to expand their knowledge and to discern a lot more about the subject that they are most interested about, birds.

The Birdwatchers

These people go about bird watching by only observing with their eyes. They may also opt for binoculars but aren’t really focusing on the technology. They wouldn’t care if their apparels are not the latest in the market, they can even go about without those gadgets. What’s important is that they get a sense of fulfillment from what they are doing, they get to relax, see the birds and enjoy the sights.

The birdwatchers couldn’t care less where they do their stuff. They would even do it on their own backyards or just go to nature reserves nearest to them. If they happen to be on vacation, they can do it wherever they are, whenever they please to do it. These people has the love for the birds but don’t really want to take that feeling further by going the scientific route, because by doing so, they might miss out the fun that they intend to have.

The Right Time

Bird watching on regions that have temperate weather are most active in the spring and fall migrations. During such time, the widest array of birds could be seen as these birds relocate northbound or southbound in trying to find nesting sites.

For the hobbyists and professionals, it is advisable to do the act in the early morning where the birds are looking for food. This way, observation can be done at a lengthier time and you can see them easily while they are onto their task.

Seawatching

This type of bird watching is for people who would go near coastal areas to find watch points like the headland to be able to see the birds flying over to the sea. The birds that can be observed from such are called the pelagic kinds. The pelagic species of birds can also be observed when one is aboard a seagoing vessel.

Proper Etiquette

Whether you’re a birder or a birdwatcher, you should always look out for the wellbeing of the birds and also have some positive notes on what you are doing. You can lead the way to promote cleanliness of the environment so that the natural habitat for this kind wouldn’t be harmed. Also, you should be vigilant about the latest technology when you use them as part of the activity, that it won’t affect the birds in a negative manner.

Bird watching may just be a hobby but one that must be done with passion and concern about the birds and their welfare.
